One of these can generally be found for around $1,200, while a replacement dash pad will add another $260 to the bill. It appears as though all of the upholstered surfaces have deteriorated quite badly, so a trim kit is probably going to be a wise investment. The harsh reality when we look inside the Nova is that it is going to require a complete retrim. The inclusion of a set of Rally wheels is a nice bonus, and it looks as though these are wearing relatively new tires. Some of the external trim and chrome will require restoration or replacement, but at least it does appear as though it is all present. It is a bit hard to be sure from the supplied photos, but it does appear to be very promising. The floors have a very heavy coating of surface corrosion, but I don’t think that there is any actual penetrating rust present. The trunk pan might have a few very small holes, but if what can be seen are holes rather than just some sort of dirt or gunk, then they really are quite minor. There are a few spots of rust visible in the lower edges of the deck-lid, but the rest of the vehicle’s exterior looks to be really solid. It is a bit hard to tell whether there might be a couple of spots of rust visible around the rear window, or whether what can be seen there are a few remnants of the original vinyl. The Gobi Beige paint on the Nova has certainly seen better days, while the Black vinyl top has been removed at some point. If you’d really like to take on the Nova but want to avoid the fun and games that come with auction bidding, there is a BIN option, and this has been set at $8,500. Bidding on the Nova has reached $5,300, but the reserve hasn’t been met. Located in Germantown, Tennessee, you will find the Nova listed for sale here on eBay. It would make a great father/son or father/daughter project where the end result would be an attractive and relatively potent classic. Apart from one repaint, this Nova is completely unrestored with barely 68,000 miles on the odometer. While it might have some heavy surface corrosion visible in a number of places, this 1970 Nova SS appears to be short of any significant rust issues. It still bears its original L78 engine, TH400 transmission, and 3.55 Eaton Posi rear. It wears a Fathom Blue paint scheme and a black interior with bucket seats, console, and an AM/FM radio. Dean’s car was built on Septem(a very early 1970 model) at the Willow Run Factory. Only 3,765 1970 Nova SS L78’s were produced and a mere 800 automatic rolled off the assembly line, making this a true collector car. Now that’s muscle (and right from the factory)! In April of 1969, Hot Rod tested a stock L78 automatic 1970 Nova, and recorded a best 1/4 mile time of 13.87 105 mph.” This arrangement gave Chevy two distinct levels of HP they could offer the public. The L78 was released for sale in the 1966 SS396 Chevelle in March 1966 with a rating of 375 HP due to this lower RPM rating as well as somewhat more restrictive exhaust manifolds it was otherwise identical to the 425 HP ’65 Corvettes. Because of insurance concerns and marketing issues, General Motors Corporate policy resulted in the advertising of the lower RPM rating resulting in the decrease from 425 HP to 375 HP as a running change for all models except Corvette. So the L78 was dyno’d and became a 375 HP motor at 5600 RPM. Then the L72 came along and that made 425 HP at 5600 RPM. It was originally listed as making 425 HP at 6400 RPM in 1965. “The L78 was released in 1965 for the Corvette and full size cars. But to anyone with an interest in real factory muscle, this little Nova really stands out from the pack.įor those who may not be Nova history buffs, here is a little lesson on Chevrolet’s infamous L78 engine from this 1970 Nova’s owner himself: It doesn’t catch your eye because of big, shiny rims or a polished blower poking out of the hood. This 1970 Nova is one of those cars you spend a while staring at when you visit the local cruise night.
